Crossing the Finish Line

21 May

I finally got around to uploading video from the Cherry Blossom. The below clip is of my Dad and I crossing the finish line! (hooray)

But really, the best part of this video is my mom’s commentary. She was completely unaware I was running next to my Dad! Good thing it was captured on video so she can relive the moment!

10 Miles of Fun

Yesterday brought to a close my parent’s week-long DC visit. Having them around reminded me just how nice it is to have someone you can count on for even the smallest, most mundane tasks. Who else besides your mom wants to go to the DMV with you?

The trip was planned around running the Cherry Blossom 10-miler with my Dad. It was my fourth year running and his first 10-miler. Despite the morning chill, the day turned out perfect for a long run around the city’s monuments. I can’t think of a better way to take in DC’s sites.

My Dad and I ran the whole race together from start to finish even though he is a much faster runner than me. Having him there to push me through the last three miles was the motivation I needed to keep pace and meet my goal race time. Without a doubt, it was the best Cherry Blossom yet!

To offset all the running I showed my parent’s DC’s culinary sites by taking them to all sorts of must eats. We grabbed burgers at Ray’s Hell Burger, chicken at El Pollo Rico, Mexican at Guajillo, and pizza at Matchbox. Alpharetta just can’t match the food here.

All in all, it was a fun-filled, productive week. Now it’s back to regular DC life…
